In the latest update reported by SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series and the Galaxy S22 lineup in the United States are now in the process of receiving the critical September Android security patch.
This update is a much-anticipated one, as it addresses a whopping 62 vulnerabilities, with a significant portion of them categorised as high-severity issues. Initially, Verizon subscribers with the 2023 and 2022 flagship Galaxy models had access to this update, but it has since rolled out to other major U.S. wireless carriers.
Within these 62 patches, Google contributed 19, with four of them marked as ‘critical’ and 19 as ‘high’ priority. Samsung’s semiconductor division, which supplies Exynos application processors and modems for the phones, also played its part by providing two ‘low’ and two ‘moderate’ patches.
Samsung took responsibility for resolving 35 vulnerabilities, which were found across various areas, including the Samsung Keyboard app, security settings, Dual Messenger, Samsung Knox AI, storage for Phone and Messages apps, Settings Suggestions, One UI’s Folder Lock feature, Weather app, Wi-Fi Auto Hotspot, inbound SMS handling, and lockscreen settings.
The Galaxy S23 series is receiving the update with firmware version S91xUSQS1AWHD, while the Galaxy S22 series in the U.S. can update to version S90xBXXS6CWH6, which has a size of 235MB.
On the international front, owners of the mid-range Galaxy A52 in Canada, across carriers such as Bell Mobile, SaskTel, Virgin Mobile, Tbaytel, Videotron, EastLink, Telus, Cahatr Mobile, Fido, Koodo, Globalive, and Rogers, are also benefiting from the September security patch. Their firmware is being updated to version A526 VLSA WH1.
Additionally, the rugged Galaxy Xcover 5 is not left behind, as it is receiving the September 2023 update in Mexico, Guatemala, and Argentina. The firmware version G525FXXS8CWH3 is the one to look out for in these markets.
It’s crucial to note that some of these vulnerabilities being addressed could potentially allow unauthorised access to sensitive information.
