Apple enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the iPhone 15 series might need to exercise a bit more patience, especially if they’ve set their sights on the crème de la crème, the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
According to insiders who spilled the beans to 9to5Mac, the anticipated delay is attributed to Sony, the tech giant responsible for supplying camera components for Apple’s devices. The buzz is that Sony might face challenges in the timely production of the image sensor tailored for the Pro Max. Consequently, this could mean that while other models in the iPhone 15 lineup would roll out as scheduled, the Pro Max might lag behind.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is slated to be the star of the show, boasting a significant camera enhancement – a periscope lens system. This new addition is expected to push the optical zoom boundaries beyond the existing 3x limit. On the other hand, its sibling, the iPhone 15 Pro, won’t be privy to this upgrade. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are set to feature only ultra-wide and wide cameras.
As per the grapevine, Apple is gearing up to pull the curtains off the new iPhones on September 12. Pre-orders are anticipated to kick off on September 15, with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus making their way to customers by September 22. However, for those eyeing the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the wait might stretch between October 6 and October 13, marking a delay of 3 to 4 weeks.
This isn’t unfamiliar territory for Apple. Past launches have seen similar staggered rollouts. Remember the iPhone XR’s debut post the iPhone XS? Or the iPhone 14 Plus arriving after the iPhone 14? Not to mention the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max playing catch-up with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Beyond the camera enhancements, the iPhone 15 series promises a plethora of exciting updates. Rumors hint at a transition from the Lightning port to USB-C and a fresh Dynamic Island design for the standard variants. The Pro models are also rumored to flaunt a titanium frame and might swap the conventional mute switch with a programmable button.
